I rarely see sunlight. In the midst of winter gloom, incessant rain, and cloud cover, I started buying pots of tulips to both brighten my studio and improve my mood. These paintings are bright spots of color in a world and time where moments of gaiety are sorely missed. First started they were simple throwaway exercises meant to improve both speed and accuracy, delicately rendering translucent light filtering through petals. These paintings have turned into an excuse for buying pots of tulips to enliven my studio, even as each tulip painted is an opportunity for personal artistic growth.
